5-15-12 Did President Truman make the right choice in deciding to drop the atomic bomb on Japan or should America have tried to win the war without using it?
I think that President Truman made the right descision to drop the bomb on Japan. This is because, if he did not drop the bomb, the war would have continued. That would mean killing more and more American soldiers, and allowing the Japaneese time to create their own atomic weapon, to use on American civilians. However, I do no think that it was necessary to drop the bomb on Japaneese cities. I think that if the Americans had dropped the bomb on the Japaneese millitary base instead, that Japan would have still been forced to surrender, because their army would have been devastated. Although the bombing may have been necessary to end the war, the bombing of civillians was not.
In my opinion, the President at that time made the right desision. Sadly, the bomb did kill thousands of innocent people, but on the upside dropping the atomic bomb stopped World War II. However, there could have been many other places in Japan to drop the lethal weapon, instead of the highly populated Japanese cities.
I do believe that President Truman did the right thing by dropping atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. He took this action to protect the people in the U.S at the time. If i were in his position with the decision on whether or not to drop to atomic bombs, I would have done the same thing. If he had not dropped the bomb, Japan could have done damage to the U.S, killing numbers of people. Japan stated that they would never lose without a fight. Truman gave them an example of what the war between them would be like, and Japan understood that after many were killed Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The decision prevented another event like Pear Harbor happening in American history.
If I was the leader of a country or even a group of people and I felt that there life was in danger I would do anything I could to save them. So I believe that president Truman made the right decision by dropping the bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. He made this decision to protect the people of the United States. If he would have waited longer and didn't drop the bomb Japan could have damaged the United States and taken many lives. President Truman made the right decision, he showed the people of Japan that if they attack again or harm any of their people they will not stay quiet. He proved that the United States is tough too, they can be violent too. So Truman made the right choice by dropping the bomb I would have the done the same.
I do think President Truman made the right choice. If he didnt drop the bomb then they had to go into war. Even though they killed so many people, they were only protecting themselves. Without dropping the bomb they were in danger and would start another World War. If he didnt drop the bomb the Japanese would try to defeat them and the U.S. would become weaker and lose the territory and rights. Japan would have controlled U.S..
I believe that President Truman made the right choice in deciding to drop the atomic bomb on Japan instead of trying to win the war without using it. At that point in time, they had just forced Germany to surrender and wanted to be done with the war. They already lost thousands of soldiers and by not using it , you risk the live of your soldiers. Also, if you have any sort of advantage in a war, you must capitalize upon it including using the atomic bomb. It was Japan's fault for putting its citizens in harms way by locating them in large cities. It is unfortunate that many innocent citizens died but President Truman did what he had to do to protect his country. For all he knows, Japan could have been on the verge of creating an atomic bomb and using it on the U.S. That is why I believe Truman made the right choice.
If i were Truman, I would've made the same decision. Even though it meant taking the lives of many innocent civilians, it was worth it. The war was taking the lives of many troops, and if it continued, it would have taken even more. Truman as being president knew he was responsible for the lives of these troops. All he basically had was two choices, let the troops continue fighting and loosing their lives, or ending it with a devastating bomb. The atomic bomb showed Japan just how advanced the United States was in weaponry. Immediately after the Nagasaki bomb was dropped, the Japanese surrendered and the war was over.
I think that President Harry Truman made the right decision in dropping the atomic bombs on Japan to end World War II. Although many Japanese were lost, his priority had to be protecting the people of his own country, the Americans. If he hadn't, the conflict would have continued and more soldiers from both sides would have been killed. It must have been a hard decision, but in the end it was his duty. If it were me, I would not be able to do it.
In my opinion, President Harry Truman made the right decision by dropping the two atomic bombs on Japan. If they hadn’t taken such action, Japan would have begun inventing their atomic bomb and came after US. Also, the "traditional" war would have killed a lot of American soldiers because the Japans wouldn’t surrender. I feel a great respect towards President Truman because he did hesitate to bomb the civilians which make me know he didn’t intend to actually kill all the innocent civilians, just devastate the Japanese Army.
In my opinion President Harry Truman made the right decision. He made the right decision because if America didn't drop the bombs, Japan would've attacked us again. The bombing in Japan caused them to surrender which was the plan. Japan noticed how many people were killed and how much damage was caused. Even if Japan didn't surrender they still wouldn't be able to come back and harm America.
I think that President Truman made the right descision to drop the bomb on Japan. Because if he did not drop the bomb, the war would have continued. That would have meant killing more and more American soldiers, and allowing the Japaneese time to create their own atomic weapon. If they had deveoloped their own nuclear weapon while the war was still in full force the outcome of the war would have been ,much worse than it had been. However, I do no think that it was necessary to drop the bomb on Japaneese cities. I think that if the Americans had dropped the bomb on the Japaneese millitary base instead, that Japan would have still been forced to surrender, because their army would have been devastated. Although the bombing may have been necessary to end the way, I do not think that bombing a city had been the only option that was left. That is why I believe truman made the correct decision.
I don't think that Truman made the right decision in dropping the atomic bomb on Japan. If I was in Truman's place I definitely would've done the opposite. Many innocent lives could've been spared if they just fought the traditional way. Even if the war was going to last longer I'm sure that America could've asked some allies for assistance in taking Japan down. The bomb also made America seem harsh and inhumane.
I think that president truman made the right choice in dropping the bomb on Japan. I'm sure he tried to think of a better way of ending the war. In his mind there was probably no other way around it. America wanted war to stop and this was the only way out of it. It was a decision that had to be made. It was a good decision on his behalf if you ask me.
I believe that president Truman did the correct thing. Yes, there may have been plenty more options, but bombing Japan seems like the best thing to do. Other options may not have been simple at the moment. Also if he did not drop the bomb, the war would have continued for much long than what it already did. And in that case, Japan could have attacked us once again leading the war back and forth with no stop.
Truman's decision to drop the bomb on Japan was a smart decision. The effect of dropping the bomb was not his intensional, but he hoped that Japan would surrender. Truman put into mind what might happen to his country if he did not request the bomb to drop. If he didnt have the bomb dropped, we might still today be at war with Japan. He was think of his country and how to keep the united states protected.
