4-4-12 Do you feel the Treaty of Versailles was too harsh on Germany? Explain

16 comments:

  1. The Treaty of Versailles was not too harsh on Germany. I think that Germany deserved the punishment because they clearly started it. But at the same the other countries should take part in paying for the damage. They should help pay for it because they helped fight in the war. They didn't have to get involve, but they did so it would only be fair if they helped pay. In my opinion Germany should pay for the damages.

  2. The Treaty of Versailles finally ended the war. The treaty ordered Germany to pay for all of the costs due to the war. I dont think the treaty was harsh at all to Germany. Why? Because Germany started the war in the first place. Germany declared war on Russia for trying to help Serbia out. This caused other countries to get involved. The involvement of other countries probably caused many expenses. If Germany never declared war on Russia, then the war wouldn't have stated, and there wouldn't be anything to pay for. It was right for the treaty to order Germany to pay for the costs of the war.

  3. Yes, I think the decision of making Germany pay for war costs and damages was too harsh. It portrayed the Germans like the criminals they were in propaganda, and allowed other nations to revoke their responsibility. This punishment was motivated solely by political hate towards the German government. It ignored the situation of the actual German citizens. All of the countries involved with the war knew what life during the war was like, so they should have made an easier peace settlement.

  4. I do not feel that the Treaty of Versailles was to harsh on Germany because they were the first ones to offically declare war. I do think that the first person to declare war should be the person that will he help accountable for the entire war. I feel that they should not feel that they are treated unfairly because they were the ones that were "picking" on another country. That is why I do not feel that the other countries were unfair to germany.

  5. Although the Treaty of Versailles was effective in Ending the war with Germany, I think it was too harsh on Germany because, Germany was not the only country involved in the war. Even though Germany may have started the war, the other countries also instegated the begginings of war and had just as much to do with the damages caused as Germany. I think that the Treaty tried to blame the whole war on Germany, and therefor give the reproccussions only to the German government based solely on military dislike probably caused by wartime propoganda. I think that to be fair the Treaty should have been less biased and looked at from all points of view rather than a single narrow view points.

  6. The Treaty of Versailles was never intended to be fair. The main point of the treaty was to weaken Germany. Germany didn't deserve to be punished to that extent. Germany was seen as the one who started the war but all countries must have responsibility in WW1 not only Germany, especially Serbia. The Serbs killed the duke of Austria and Austria wanted war with Serbia so Russia threatened Austria to not attack Serbia but then the Germans said that they were going to attack Russia if they attacked Austria and so on.So yeah, the Treaty of Versailles was too harsh on Germany.

  7. In my opinion, the Treaty of Versailles was too harsh on Germany for many reasons. First, they were unhappy with Article 231 which is about War Cause Guilt and blamed Germany and Austria/Hungary for starting the war. Second, Germany was to pay for all the damage caused by the war. Finally, Germany had to cut down on their army to 100,000, cut down navy, and reduce air force. This is why I believe that the Treaty of Versailles was too harsh on Germany.

  8. In my opinion the Treaty of Versailles had every right to do that to Germany. If you look at it their way Germany was the one to start the fight. They started the war when they started attacking Russia for helping out its ally, Siberia. They didn’t have to get involved but they decided to anyway. It is fair for them to pay for all damage they had caused. It was because of them also that all countries started getting into disputes. Even though Russia shouldn’t have interfered with Siberia, Germany shouldn’t have also interfered with Russia.

The Treaty of Versailles was what caused the world war to end. It was not at all to harsh. It let Germany pay for any cost . It was not harsh because the war would have never started if it wasn't for the Germans. The caused the people to lose money and it was only right if they paid for the money lost. They could have been a little easier on the Germans by have everyone that was in the war pay for the damages, but the people that started it should be punished harsher then others.

  10. The Treaty of Versailles helped end the war. The war was the cause of so many deaths. Germany should have helped to stop the war, not get involved and get more people killed.Germany were allies to Siberia. This was the reason why Germany attacked Russia. They didn't have to get involved but they decided to do it anyways and start more problems. They made the wrong decision. The Treaty of Versailles stopped all the fighting and quarreling. They made Germany pay for all the damage and I believe that was not harsh at all. If they are going to get involved for no reason they should pay for the damage.

  11. No i do not believe the Treaty of Versailles was to harsh on the Germans. The Germans were the one who started the war so i think they deserve paying the debt for all the damage caused. I think the reason they were responsible to pay the debts for that reason (starting the war). It caused so much damage and needed someone to clean up and pay for all this. Out of all the countries i think that Germany was the right country. If it was not for them, there would be no damage at all. I dont think the Treaty was too harsh.

  12. I think it was not too harsh on them. They are the ones who started the war they should be held responsible for everything. They deserve everything in that treaty. Germany caused all the damage it was really no ones fault but Germany. The other countries didnt start the war. Germany wanted to start it and they should be the ones to clean up there mistakes.

  13. In my opinion, the Treaty of Versailles, was not to hard on Germany at all. It once and for all ended the war and forced Germany to pay for the total cost of the war. That cannot be to harsh because Russia started the whole thing by declaring war on Russia. Who knows if the war would have even started if it wasn't for them. Russia was trying to help Siberia out by supporting them and in return, they get declared war on. That is not fair and that is why the Treaty of Versailles was not to harsh.

  14. I think that the Treaty of Versailles wasn't too harsh in the slightest. It forced Germany to pay for the costs of the war. That's a pretty hefty toll to pay but it wasn't too harsh because Germany started the war. If they weren't prepared for the consequences then they shouldn't have started the war in the first place.

  15. The Treaty of Versailles was definately not to harsh. It finally brought a stop to the war. It lead to having Germany pay for all the war costs. It was only right because they started the war when they declared against Russia. The othre countries may have been involved, but it wasn;t their fault. Russia was the wars beginning it deserved to be the ending by repairing what they had done wrong.

  16. I think it was fair for Germany. They started the war. They were the first ones. To declare war on Russia. Therefore they r at fault for the whole world war. If it wasn't for them declaring war there would not have been a world war. They should pay for the expenses of the war since they started it
